Lightroom CC / Lightroom 6 first look, review and tutorials – PhotoshopCAFE

LR 6 Logo

Three of the new features that debuted in Lightroom 6/CC were producing HDR images right in LR without needing to go to HDR Pro in Photoshop, generating panoramas in LR, and also the new Facial Recognition capability.

Exploring these new features and many others will be included in the Lightroom class I will be teaching this summer for PVNet at their Promenade location in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Center. Stay tuned for details.

In the meantime, check out this great article by Colin Smith that describes these new features.

PVNET Open House at the PV Peninsula Center

PVNET has secured a huge space (about 15,000 square feet) on the Promenade in the Rancho Palos Verdes Peninsula Center for the summer. It is located immediately below the Regal Theaters, where a book store was a few years ago.  Included in their facility will be a netted area to fly quadcopters and race RC cars. There are multiple class rooms being set up which will include 24 computers.

They have big plans for all kinds of technology activities and training this summer for all ages as illustrated in the poster below. There will  an Open House on May 23rd and May 30th.

I will be giving a free workshop on using Photoshop CC and/or Lightroom 5 on May 30th.  When more details become available, I will post them here and on my Facebook page.

Stay tuned!

Photoshop CC Classes Coming to PVNET

PVNET-1 post 2-1-14

A few weeks ago I wrote that PVNET had acquired the complete Adobe Creative Cloud suite. This includes Photoshop CC (2014) and Lightroom 5.

I will be teaching two Photoshop CC classes, Level 1 and Level 2 beginning April 3rd. To find out more about the classes, and how to register for them, CLICK HERE.

Remember, you can get a subscription for Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for $10 a month from Adobe. Your subscription allows you to install both programs on two separate machines.

Currently, PVNET is the only adult oriented educational facility that has Photoshop CC on their computers. However, you need to register early, because each of the two classes can only accommodate eleven students.

PVNET Now Has Adobe Creative Suite

Yes, that is right. PVNET has just acquired the complete Creative Suite package. Check out their current class offerings. In fact, there is a new InDesign class starting this Tuesday. As many of you know I have taught several classes at PVNET over the years. The Photoshop and Lightroom classes I have taught in the past, required students to bring in their laptops with the software installed.

Now, they have both Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 on their desktop computers. This will open up these classes to those of you who have the programs on your desktops. Within the next few weeks, I will be posting when I will be teaching classes in these programs at PVNET. Remember, Photoshop is now only a subscription program, and you can get it and Lightroom 5 for only $10 a month. That is a fraction of what it cost you to buy these two programs previously.

Stay tuned for more details.

By the way, I would really appreciate it, if you would share this post on the social media sites you follow you follow, as well as clicking on the Like button below. And always, please leave any comments you may have.

Microsoft Movie Maker 2012 Class

Hi Everyone,

Time is running out to sign up for the Microsoft Movie Maker 2012 class I will be teaching at Torrance, beginning Tuesday, Feb 10th at 10:00am.

The class is a bit low on registrations, and will no doubt be cancelled if additional students are not registered.

Movie Maker 2012 is a free program from Microsoft that will help you turn those quick videos clips from your cell phone or camera into something special. See the description below.

Email me if you have any questions.

Using Microsoft’s Free Movie Maker 2012 Video Editor

Are you finding that you are taking more and more videos with your camera or smart phone? Would you like to combine these videos into a multi-media presentation, including menus and special effects that you can share with family and friends? Or do you just want to learn about video editing? In any case, this class is for you.

Microsoft’s Movie Maker 2012 is available as a free download. You will learn how to combine a series of your photos and video clips to produce a movie that can be shared with family and friends. You will learn how to edit the video clips, add background music, add special effects and titles, and finally produce the finished movie. Your finished movie will also be output to a DVD for playing on a TV or uploaded to YouTube. This is an excellent course for you, if you are just beginning to explore digital video editing and production.

Tuesdays 10:00-12:00 pm beginning February 10th for 5 Meetings (Griffith)

Lightroom 5 Class Starts January 8th

Are the photos stared on your computer getting out of hand to the point where you cannot find the particular one you are looking for without a lot of hassle?

Are you a currently using of Photoshop Elements, but have never really used its Organizer?

Are you a current Photoshop user, and find that you need something beyond Bridge to manage the hundreds or thousands of images you have accumulated on your computer?

Have you tried using Lightroom, but find it a bit overwhelming to get started with it?

If any of these apply to you, the Lightroom 5 class I’ll be teaching at the Torrance Adult School, should really help you.

Click on the link below to watch a short video describing the upcoming class.

Go to the Torrance Adult School website to register for the class.

Photoshop CS5 and Camera RAW Class Preview

One of the classes I’m teaching this fall at Torrance is Photoshop CS5 and Camera RAW. The video here is a preview of how the class will work and what we will be covering.

PS CS5 Prev Screen

I experimented with a Microsoft PowerPoint add-in tool called Mix to make the video. Using it I inserted a video of me in the corner as I’m presenting the slides. Aren’t you lucky. 🙂

Even though CS5 is not the latest version of Photoshop, it still has some very powerful photo editing tools and provides a great foundation for learning the basics of the program.

The class starts on Thursday, September 11th from 5:30-7:30 pm. I hope to see you in class.

Also, if you have not filled out the survey I posted, please do. It will give me a good idea of just what classes you would be interested in taking, either in a classroom environment or online. Thanks so much.

Fall Class Reminder and Short Survey

The summer is going by far too quickly. The fall term will be starting before you know it. Both the Torrance Adult School and the South Bay Adult School will be mailing their catalogs and opening their online registration very soon. The fall term starts on September 8th for both schools.

I have the description and schedule for the classes I will be teaching this fall posted on my website. You can see them by clicking on the links below.

South Bay Adult School

As always, the technology continues to change which creates new challenges but also new opportunities for learning. Below I have included a short survey that will help me determine just what subjects you would like to see classes offered either at one of the schools, as well as PVNET.

Also, let me know if you are interested in taking an online class similar to those I now teach in adult education. An online class actually allows more opportunities for me to interact with you and provide personal feedback than is often possible in a classroom situation.

As a reminder, my classes cover of digital photography in general, including, using your camera, Photoshop Elements, Photoshop, Lightroom, and video editing with Movie Maker, and other programs.  Additionally, I teach basic iPad/iPhone classes, as well as those focused on using these devices to enhance your photography and the images they capture.

For those of you who have thought about learning Photoshop and/or Lightroom, but have not taken that step due to the high cost, now may be the time. You can rent the latest versions of both Lightroom, and Photoshop for $9.99 per month. In fact, that is the only way you can get Photoshop anymore. Additionally, both programs are updated multiple times per year adding new features. This is something to think about as you complete the survey below.

One final thought. Adult school budgets continue to by very tight. They simply cannot keep up with the latest software updates. As I hope you know, one way I have been trying to deal with this is to teach classes, like Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5, using a laptop. These classes do require you to have the applicable software on your laptop, which for many of you is the case anyway.

So far, I have taught these laptop classes only at PVNET. However, I understand that Torrance is going to be setting up a classroom specifically for this type of class for the winter term. That will open up a lot of new opportunities there.

Ok, the survey is below. It is short. I would really appreciate it if you would take the minute or two it takes to complete it. Thanks a lot!
